Talk Money Week
Talk Money Week runs from 4th – 8th November 2024 and is an annual initiative designed to encourage us to tackle the taboo and talk about money.
The cause urges us to talk about all aspects of money amongst our friends, family, workplaces and wider communities to move away from the idea that money isn’t an everyday topic of conversation.
Money weaves through the veins of society, it is something that we all have in common yet something that vastly differs amongst us. Despite the prominence of money in general life, there has traditionally been a longstanding reluctance for many of us to speak about what’s going on in our bank accounts. Opening up about our finances is something that many of us might prefer to brush under the carpet, however, in the face of the current financial climate it is more important now than ever to engage in these conversations.
With the cost of living crisis putting added strain on everyone’s purses, it’s crucial to be honest and open about any financial worries we have. Sharing these concerns with friends, family or even experts if required, can help set us on the right path to finding solutions while also avoiding risky or spontaneous decisions. Encouraging open conversation about money can also have a positive longer term impact on society, improving financial education and awareness amongst younger generations.
The theme of this year’s Talk Money Week is “Do One Thing”. The idea behind this is that companies and organisations should all be encouraging their customers or stakeholders to do one thing to improve their financial wellbeing, and encourage them to spread the word to others. Looking at this from a pensions perspective, depending on your status within the pension scheme, there are different options of what your “one thing” could look like.
A good starting point for all Fund members is to set up your My Pension+ account and get to know your pension pot. By doing this you can use our secure member portal to perform a range of functions including checking your contact details, updating death grant nominations and using the retirement planning tool to see if you’re on track for the pension you desire. With My Pension+ you can also view previous pension statements, or if a pensioner member, p60s and payslips.
If you are already familiar with My Pension+, our website can be a helpful tool and resource. Our website contains specific areas dedicated to active, deferred and pensioner members which host a wealth of information about your pension. You can also contact us if you have any queries or questions about your NESPF pension.
